Volunteer opportunities with YFC Winnipeg

Do you have a passion for sports, dancing, music, cooking or another skill that you would like to share with others?  Would like to make an eternal impact in young people’s lives at the same time? Below is a summary of our needs and potential volunteer opportunities.

King St. Drop-in
Discover an amazing place that combines unique opportunities, sports and video games with caring mentors. If you’re new to YFC, this is a safe place to learn more about our programs and the healthy lifestyle we want for all kids and teens.

Camp Cedarwood
Cedarwood is a unique summer camp experience designed exclusively for teenagers. There are opportunities to be trained in wakeboarding, mountain biking, BMX, paintball, high ropes course and wall climbing. Or try your hand at beach volleyball, kayaking or canoeing! Every night you can enjoy concerts with the live Cedarwood band, Cedarwood filmed and edited videos, or in the entertainment that includes lots of gut wrenching laughs. The fun doesn’t stop at the end of the summer. Campers are invited to participate in our year-round follow-up program, that includes weekly small groups, monthly gatherings, and two weekend retreats.

YFC Athletics Soccer Leagues
Soccer is one of the most participated-in sports in the world. In Winnipeg the amount of people wanting to play indoor winter soccer far exceeds the amount of available facility space. We carry out winter and summer seasons of soccer in order to make long term relationships with teenagers far more effective.

YFC Athletics Ball Hockey League
Our greatest need in this program is for mentors to build relationships with a team of 5 boys while playing floor hockey with them on a weekly basis. The mentor provides transportation to and from games, is in contact with each team member weekly and looks for ways to deepen their relationship with each boy on the team.

The RIG Fitness Centre
Through Ninja Warrior, Parkour, Cross Training, Weightlifting, Powerlifting, and Kettle Bells young people are encouraged to set and reach new fitness goals, and given opportunities to make positive choices in their lives.
We are Winnipeg’s only youth focused gym…open specifically for anyone aged 12-18.

“The Rock” Climbing Wall
Looking for a climbing challenge? Our energetic volunteers will test the limits of your physical stamina and challenge you to develop your inner strength. Try climbing, rappelling and bouldering in our all-season facility, and then head out to face real rock cliffs on outdoor excursions. Come see how challenging climbs are showing teens how to live a meaningful life.

New Hope: A Support for Teen Parents
The New Hope program offers support groups and mentoring.  Volunteers are needed to serve as mentors in the support groups and to provide babysitting.

The Edge Skatepark
Skateboarding is more than an activity for those that love it – it’s a lifestyle. If you love skateboarding this may be the perfect place for you to help out. We need volunteers that are excited to care about others, while doing what we all love – SKATEBOARDING!

Work Force
Work Force is an employment program in Winnipeg’s North End, primarily serving undervalued youth in the William Whyte community. Often our youth do not know how to get or keep a job and don’t believe that they really will be able to work one day.  We are trying to break the generational cycle of dependency on the welfare system as well as journey with them to discover the God who loves them and has a future and a hope for them.  For a complete listing of opportunities, visit the Work Force website

YFC can always use help in the office. Volunteers can help with mailings, facility maintenance, construction, and a variety of other odd jobs.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
With all the great places to get involved as outlined above, you might think all the bases are covered…not so. We have general volunteer needs and if you feel led to volunteer with us, we will do our best to find a fit for you!

  • If you happen to be a person who loves taking pictures, videos and making other forms of multimedia come alive…
  • If you like to cook or bake…
  • If you are a musician, willing to teach or encourage our youth…
  • If you have a special skill that might be of benefit to our youth, staff or volunteer…
