Connecting young people in Winnipeg’s North-End with caring adult mentors for over 20 years!
Work Force runs in partnership with Bethlehem Aboriginal Fellowship that is located in the heart of the community. All programs run out of this building at 467 Manitoba Ave.
There are a number of different components to Work Force:
Summer Work Force – Youth work at job placements in the community with residents and businesses a few times a week. They learn such things as how to work, problem solving, how to do a good job etc. Much time is spent with the youth one-on-one when they are not working. The youth are given an honorarium by Work Force and provide a valuable service to the community.
Infinity – Infinity is geared towards youth who are interested in learning more about God. We meet one evening a week and youth learn about experiencing God in creative, interactive ways. There are large and small group activities, service opportunities and lots of fun.
Wall Crashers – This is a weekly fun night for youth who attended summer Work Force and their friends, ages 12-15. The teens get the opportunity to hang out in a healthy environment with volunteers who genuinely care for them. Activities include glow bowling, ice skating, and pizza night, etc.
Work Force Mentoring – Many youth attend different Work Force programs for a year and then don’t come back. Mentoring and spending one-on-one time with these youth is a great way to develop relationships with them. By journeying with these youth through the ups and downs of their lives, we are there for them over the long haul.
Job Studio – This program is for 16 to 20 year olds. Youth learn advanced employment skills that are an asset to being hired, such as resume writing, how to look for a job, handle an interview and deal with stress, conflict, etc. At the end of 8 months, mentors help youth to use their new skills to find jobs.
At Work Force we believe our youth have talents and abilities that can lead to meaningful lives. We teach, challenge and dare them to dream what life would be like with Jesus in their lives.
